Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN)

CENN is a non-governmental organisation working to protect our environment fostering sustainable development throughout the South Caucasus. It specialises in a number of areas including combating climate change, sustainable management of resources, building and developing healthy and prosperous climate resilient communities, and empowering women and girls to participate in creating inclusive solutions.
Since 1998, CENN has worked with local communities, national governments through to region-wide initiatives to engender green growth at every level. CENN implements joint initiatives with equal participation across Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to find viable solutions to local and regional environmental challenges.
CENN thematic directions:
  1. Resources Management (land, water, forest, biodiversity, sea, mineral resources, energy resources)
  2. Climate Change and DRR (CC adaptation and mitigation, natural hazards and risk assessment and analysis, CC resilience building, environmental migration, etc.)
  3. Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) (CSA strategic and actions planning, CSA resilience building, CSA knowledge management, extension, etc.)
  4. Gender and Environment (mainstreaming gender and application of gender-specific strategies to ensure equal gender participation and benefit shearing principles)
  5. Green Economy though Compliance Management (ESIA, ESDDS, EA, etc.)
  6. Integrated Waste and Pollution Management (air, water, soil)
  7. Sustainable Development and Socio economic integration (spatial planning, rural and urban development, etc.)

Within the EU-funded ENPARD Programme, CENN implements the project “Optimising the Potential of Local Assets for Rural Development of Keda Municipality”. The project duration is May 1, 2017 – April 30, 2021.
The overall objective of the action is to reduce poverty in Georgia via addressing the economic, social and environmental concerns of rural areas, making use of local potential for sustainable and inclusive growth, and promoting rural development at a national level. The specific objective of the action is to diversify local economic activities, fostering investment and empowering competitive agricultural and environmental practices in Keda Municipality via bottom-up strategic planning of rural development.
The following activities will be implemented within the project:
  • Establishment and capacity building of the Keda Local Action Group (LAG).
  • Participatory Development of Gender and Youth Sensitive Keda Rural Development Strategy (RDS).
  • Implementation of innovative projects (through sub-grants under the strategy) to foster economic and investment opportunities and inclusive rural growth, and improve the well-being of rural communities.
